JANESVILLE — Blackhawk Technical College graduated 23 high school juniors from its summer Rock Internship Program on July 25, the sixth year the experience has been offered.
The Rock Internship is a paid, six-week internship program that is an “earn-and-learn opportunity that provides students with a structured career pathway,” Blackhawk Technical College said in a release.
The students’ experience culminated in a ceremony in which they shared a summary of their internship experiences that offered insights and achievements with family, friends and employers in attendance.
The internship is offered through a partnership with Blackhawk Technical College, the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, Rock County and Rock County 5.0, which is a public/private implementation platform to “advance Rock County’s economic development vision through a single voice,” according to the Rock County 5.0 website.
Students in the program were required to submit a resume, letter of recommendation and an academic and career plan, which were used to match students with worksites.
In addition to Blackhawk, employers participating in the program included Angus-Young, Batterman, CCI, Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce/Irontek, JP Cullen, MercyHealth, The Morse Group, OrthoIlinois, Rock County, Scot Forge, SSM Health, Stoughton Trailers, University of Whitewater at Rock County, Welty Environmental Center and YWCA Rock County.
