JANESVILLE -- The Janesville City Council unanimously voted Monday night to extend the life of four existing TIF districts for one more year, and to invest the anticipated $1.2 million in new tax revenue to be generated by their remaining open into affordable housing and other housing projects citywide.
MADISON -- Janesville Craig rode a 21-point first half from Judson Henkel on his way to a game-high 30 as the Cougars (3-2) posted an 86-43 Big Eight Conference boys basketball victory over host Madison East Tuesday.
Henkel also grabbed 11 rebounds, while Alex Currie and Nolan Duffy each added nine rebounds for Janesville Craig.
"We played everybody," Cougar coach Jack Hoag said. "Everyone knew what they were supposed to do when they got into the game. Not that we'll be perfect, but it's part of the process as a result of putting in the daily work."
JANESVILLE -- As a result of a School District of Janesville decision Tuesday night, the district will apply will apply to be the host district for the Rock County Fury co-op hockey team. The current host district is Beloit.
If approved, the agreement will start in 2025-26 and last through the 2026-27 season. The deadline to submit paperwork for approval to the WIAA for the 2025-26 season is Feb. 1.
Eight Janesville players compete on the team, four from Parker and four from Craig. There are four from Beloit Memorial, one from Beloit Turner and one from Edgerton. The co-op also includes Hononegah High School in Rockton, Ill., which has three; Belvidere, Ill., which has one; and Warren, Ill., which also has one.
STOUGHTON 鈥 The Janesville Craig girls basketball team headed to Stoughton for a nonconference matchup. The Vikings took led for the majority of the night and won the game 48-38.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 points, Damian Lillard had nine of his 28 in the final minute and the Milwaukee Bucks returned to the NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas by beating the Orlando Magic 114-109 on Tuesday night. Milwaukee reached the semifinals of the in-season tournament in Las Vegas last December and will be the only returning team in Year 2. They will play Saturday against the winner of Wednesday鈥檚 quarterfinal between the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. Jalen Suggs led a short-handed Orlando team with 32 points but missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with 12 seconds left. Lillard was fouled and sank two free throws with 9.1 seconds remaining and Suggs missed a potential tying 3.
