JANESVILLE Local newspapers have long been stitched into the fabric of communities, providing a mirror that reflects vital, impactful information from the latest decisions coming out of city hall to heartwarming feature stories of people from all walks of life.
Honeybee Media, a Janesville-based advertising agency, provides a number of key services, including funding the local journalism that generations of Janesville-area readers have relied upon through the pages of The 69蹤獲.
Thats at the core of our mission, as a company, Ben Childers, agency director with Honeybee Media, said. It is to provide quality local journalism, which isnt self-funded anymore.
As an agency, Honeybee Media works with local businesses to help advertise their message with Janesville-area residents through a variety of platforms including, but not limited to, traditional newspapers.
The companys expert marketers help businesses build websites, shoots video and commercials, creates digital marketing campaigns and, yes, when applicable, places display ads into print newspapers.
Regardless of the specific, tailored service, Childers said the revenue generated by helping local businesses share their message with the community has a common thread.
The money we make doing that goes to fund the people who work here in Rock County as journalists, Childers said. All of our money goes to that.
Honeybee Media is a division of Adams MultiMedia, the Minnesota-based publishing company that owns The 69蹤獲, Beloit Daily 69蹤獲 and a number of other venerable newspapers in southern Wisconsin, as well as hundreds elsewhere across the U.S.
The company operates autonomous of The 69蹤獲s Janesville newsroom in much the same way traditional newspaper advertising departments staffed teams of people to place display ads and classifieds in the print product.
Honeybee Media, much like the newspaper advertising staffs of former eras, is providing a funding source that is the lifeblood for the local journalism that once exclusively graced the print publication.
We decided to create a separate brand, Childers said. Were a full-service digital marekting agency that is part of a company that also owns other media like newspapers. What we do, day-to-day, is fully disconnected to the newspaper, but we share the values of supporting local journalism.
Much like The 69蹤獲 itself, Honeybee Media is staffed with people who know the ins and outs of the Janesville area. It is a connective tissue to the local journalists who work hard to provide the local information readers have come to rely upon since the local newspapers founding in 1845.
The Honeybee Media team has been working with advertisers to bringing results that resonate and leave a meaningful impression on the people who live, work and play in the city. As an independent advertising agency, the name might be new, but Honeybee Media is built on a firm foundation.
Coming from the media industry, we already had a lot of the skills to become a marketing agency, in terms of media buying and campaign planning, Childers said.
