MILTON –The School District of Milton’s 2025-26 capital maintenance projects have amounted to about $1.5 million, per a report from Stephen Schantz, the district’s buildings and grounds director
Schantz said there were about $36,000 worth of mechanical improvements done on unit ventilators in the boiler room at East Elementary. Also at East, the district replaced the original boiler from 1957 with a high efficiency condensing boiler for $180,000. The project received a rebate of just more than $13,000, Schantz said.
At West Elementary, about $7,500 has been invested in replacing toilet partitions in the front bathrooms. Another approximately $16,000 was put into replacing exterior doors in the gym and the cafeteria. The district “won’t have to do those doors ever again in theory,” Schantz said.
Like at East Elementary, West had a boiler from the 1950s. West’s original boiler, which was from 1959, was also replaced with a high efficiency condensing boiler for $180,000. That also had a rebate of about $13,000. The room was painted and there were lights installed as well.
“It’s not like we’re working in a cave anymore,” Schantz said.
Also at West, the library was renovated for $60,000. It was “pretty original” from its construction in 1989, Schantz said. The renovation included the replacement of flooring, new furniture, new lighting, the walls being repainted and the circulation desk being replaced.
“It went a long way in creating a modern learning environment,” Schantz said.
At Consolidated Elementary, flooring was replaced in two classrooms for just under $22,500.
At Harmony Elementary, just under $35,500 was spent updating controls on unit ventilators. Just over $26,500 was spent on replacing toilet partitions in the front and back bathrooms.
At Northside Intermediate, the gym and cafeteria were repainted for the first time since 1993 for just under $38,000. There were interior door locksets that had also not been replaced since 1993.
At the high school, two sections of the roof were replaced for over $362,000. A sound and microphone system was replaced for $127,000.
The district also replaced and repaired fencing at Schilberg Park for $30,000. It also resealed and restriped the parking lot and the walking path at the park for over $45,000. The district also replaced picnic tables and benches at Schilberg and Central parks, which combined was just less than $58,000.
One project for the year is still outstanding, which is to add lighting at Soccer Field 4 at Schilberg for just under $194,000. The lights are expected to be delivered the first week of December, Schantz said, and to be in use in the spring season
