JANESVILLE— Three finalists have been selected to be Janesville's next police chief.
The city's police and fire commission announced in a release on Thursday that Alan Fear, Patrick Hoey and Chad Pearson are in the running for police chief.
The announcement comes almost two months after David Moore retired after 15 years as police chief and 47 years with the Janesville Police Department.
Alan Fear earned his bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Fort Hays State University and an associates degree in criminal justice Kirkwood Community College. He is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
He currently serves as the director of public safety for Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. He has been there since July 2023. His previous experience includes 21 years as a member of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, police department, where he attained the rank of patrol division commander.
Fear was a finalist for Milton’s police chief; that job was given to Brandon Sachse in September.
Patrick Hoey graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement administration and holds an associate degree from Rock Valley College. He also holds certificates from the University of Virginia and Northern Illinois University.
He served as chief of police for the village of Carpentersville, Illinois, from 2021 to 2023. His professional background includes serving as the chief of police in South Beloit, Illinois, and assistant deputy chief of police in Rockford, Illinois.
Chad Pearson has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He is a graduate of the FBI National Law Enforcement Academy and the UW-Madison Command College.
He is the current acting chief police of the Janesville Police Department and has been its deputy chief of operations since 2022. He joined the department in 1997 and has served as a sergeant and lieutenant.
The next steps for the finalists will be interviews and recruitment tests. They will also have an opportunity to meet with the community. No official date has been set for community meetings; those will be announced soon, according to the release.
