MILTON -- A Madison developer got zoning approval Tuesday night to construct a two-story, 20-unit apartment complex behind its existing 8-unit apartment building.

BELOIT���Beloit area Realtors say they���re seeing a housing market so tight that working class homebuyers are scouting out homes with construction dumpsters outside. The aim: to make offers before the properties are listed for sale.

Scrawled in black letters, 6 feet high and 10 feet wide, on the home���s weathered, bone-colored siding is the announcement that ���Carol Daly owes $6,000 in back rent!��� It appeared on Nov. 12 on the front of the house in Janesville's Fourth Ward, its message facing Wilson Elementary School on a street where about 2,000 vehicles pass each day.

JANESVILLE ��� The Janesville Plan Commission and downtown business stakeholders overwhelmingly gave thumbs-up Monday to a plan to turn the former Crazy Joe���s furniture store into climate-controlled self-storage.

The final product could likely be at least a year off, but a developer plans to spend $1 million to turn a vacant set of storefronts on downtown Janesville���s main drag into spacious upper apartments with commercial suites on the street level.

Apartments downtown, or anywhere, are still needed in Janesville. Developers, the city, and most of all, renters, know this.
