Since its start, the festival has grown from a weekend workshop with a handful of participants to the largest festival of its kind in Europe, lasting more than a month, with daily workshops drawing hundreds of participants and near nightly concerts attended by over 10,000 people total, according to organizers. “From the beginning, (the idea was) to present Yiddish culture as something which is alive, and not something that was entirely destroyed by the Shoah (Holocaust),” said Alan Bern, the founder and artistic director of Yiddish Summer Weimar. This year the program ran from July 11-Aug. 15, with Aug. 8-15 being the festival week.

The top editor of Forbes has left his job after reportedly being fired for accepting $6 million from the founder of a firm that works with the magazine. The New York Times reported this week that the payment came from RJ Shook, whose company, Shook Research, has collaborated with Forbes since 2016. An internal email confirmed that chief content officer Randall Lane no longer worked for the company. Lane, who had been with Forbes for nearly 16 years, admitted he made a mistake by not disclosing the payment. The incident raises questions about ethics and trust in journalism.

President Donald Trump says White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will be leaving the administration at the end of the month to spend time with her young family. Leavitt is the youngest person in history to hold the role. Leavitt, who served Trump as a press aide during his first go-around in the White House, has been one of the most visible advocates of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement. The Republican president described her as one of his “most trusted aides” in a social media post announcing her departure.

President Donald Trump was sued in federal court to stop him from making money off early, exclusive access to his posts on U.S. policy on the own Truth Social platform. The lawsuit filed Wednesday alleges that Trump’s deal with his media firm to post first on his site violates the Constitution. The suit brought by two media groups comes after Truth Social started charging Wall Street firms as much as $100,000 a month for a new service allowing early access to the president's posts so they can trade off them. Truth Social says the lawsuit is just an attempt by left wing activists to silence the president.

Rayo Vallecano will play its first home game of the season at second-tier Leganes’ stadium because of unsafe conditions at its own venue. Vallecano had been searching for somewhere to host its top-flight Spanish league match against Alaves on Aug. 20 after its Vallecas Stadium was deemed unsafe to host games by local authorities. Spanish media were reporting that Rayo was considering playing its home games in the city of Burgos, some 200 kilometres from where the club is based in southern Madrid. But Leganes now says it has reached an agreement with Rayo and Madrid authorities to allow Rayo to play at its stadium “given the delicate situation" at the Vallecas.
