JANESVILLE — Led by Alex Falligant’s sixth-place individual finish, Janesville Craig finished with a score of 311 en route to a fifth-place finish at the historic Janesville Ashenfelter Invitational held at Riverside Golf Course on Saturday. Janesville Parker’s boys golf team finished in 16th place with a score of 337.
Marquette grabbed the top team score with a sub-300 score of 296, Fort Atkinson claimed second place with 306 and Arrowhead grabbed third with 306 after losing in a team playoff.
Falligant, a senior, shot a 73.
“The first 10 holes I started off pretty well,” Falligant said. “It’s tough to not start playing defensively when you start out hot and I feel like I did a good job of not doing that.”
After the hot start, Falligant cooled off as he approached the last five holes of the course.
“I didn’t commit to as many shots as I would have liked and then I missed a couple easy putts,” Falligant said.
Fellow Cougars senior Chase Rice finished in 17th with a 75. Craig’s Tanner Schenzel shot a 81 and Noah Niccolai finished at 82.
“We played really well today,” said Falligant. “Still a lot of room for improvement. We shot our best team score by six or seven. So, I feel pretty good about where we’re at.”
A pair of seniors also led Parker. Carson Truesdill’s carded an 80 to lead the team and Grady Lutterman finished at 82.
“I definitely left some shots out there that I wish I had back,” Truesdill said. “But I feel like I didn’t play too terribly, but I definitely have some room for improvement.
Truesdill said a strong point in his game Saturday was his putting and his tee-offs.
“But around the green, like my chip shots, that was tough for me,” said Truesdill.
Lutterman had a similar viewpoint on his day. The senior said he didn’t play his best.
“I feel like everyone performed pretty well,” Lutterman said of the Viking’s team performance. “Our top two kind of fell off, but everyone else had our backs.”
Edgerton takes 4th
An eagle by Drew Gunderson allowed the Crimson Tide to gain three strokes and finish ahead of Craig. Gunderson eagled on the fourth hole on the course, which was his very last of the day.
As a team Edgerton scored 309. Leading the Crimson Tide was Owen Wagie, who shot 73 finishing in a tie for fourth.
“We scored 309 as a four-man team, which is always good,” said Edgerton coach Terry Dickenson. “If you play the game of golf, you know you’re always going to leave strokes out there regardless. But I think that we left some out there that we should not have.”

Milton’s Kade Wieland must have felt a little déjà vu happening Friday in the 44th annual Beloit Invitational at Krueger-Haskell Golf Course.
Tied at the end of regulation for the second straight year, sophomore Wieland won again in sudden death, this time defeating Fort Atkinson senior Mason Burke on the third playoff hole.
Wieland and Burke had tied at 69 after 18 holes just as Wieland had tied his brother Brett at 69 a year ago. Oregon senior Lincoln Hottmann finished third at 71. Tying for fourth place were DeForest senior Kaden Zinkle and Milton sophomore Tyler Birkhimer at 73 each.
Rounding out the top 10 Joey Houseman of Madison La Follette, Nils Levander of Sun Prairie East and Kellan Jacobson of Fort Atkinson at 74, Parker Bilderback of DeForest at 75 and Lucas Kuehn of Sun Prairie East and Falligant of Janesville Craig at 76.
Turner junior Luke Malkow finished 86th (100) followed by Parkview junior Oliver Friedrich in 87th (102).
Brodhead senior Jayke Huntington finished in a tie for 88th (103). Sophomore teammate Landen Malcook tied for 91st at 107, senior Cullen Walker took 95th (109) and senior Jacob Keating tied for 97th (116).
Parkview junior Oliver Friedrich finished 87th (102) and junior Aiden Engle was 96th (112) and junior Davis Borntreger tied for 97th (116).
Beloit Memorial sophomore Cayden Miller finished 93rd (108).
Unlike 2024 when the Wielands led Milton to the team title, this time DeForest took first with a 297 score.
