VERONA — Janesville Craig racked up 261.5 points as it finished in first place at the Big Eight Conference girls wrestling showcase Friday at Verona High School. Verona took second place with 154 points and Janesville Parker took third with 135 points.
Nadia Fuentes of Janesville Craig wrestled at 114 pounds and finished in first place. Fuentes pinned Lily Moriearty of Madison Memorial in the semifinals and defeated Emilia Martinez of Madison La Follette by major decision, 12-1, in the championship match.
In the same class, Addison Friedriches finished in third place and pinned Moriearty in the championship match at 27 seconds.
Janesville Craig wrestler Yeva Bashko (107) finished in second place. In the same class, Vitaly Harvey of Parker finished third.
Olivia Baumunk from Craig earned first place at 120 with a pin over Hannah Wojtysiak of Sun Prairie West.
In the championship match for the 126-pound weight class, Cougars wrestler Niah Holmes pinned the Vikings’ Payten Kent at 2:20.
Ken Heine Blackshirt Invitational — Milton’s boys wrestling team finished in second place at Saturday’s invite at Waukesha South High. The Red Hawks tallied 171 points and first place Neenah recorded 235.5.
A pair of Milton wrestlers finished as champions of their weight class: Aiden Slama (120) and Devin Bobzien (138).
Slama recorded two pins and he defeated Reece Moore of Hamilton in the championship match by tech fall at 2:57. The senior also defeated Simhachal Kolli from Brookfield East and Javier Gomez Atilano of Kenosha Christian Life by pin at 1:30.
In the 138 first-place match, Bobzien won by fall over Alex Martinez from Westosha Central at 45 seconds. Bobzien also pinned Sam Buchholz from Lake Country Luth at 1:11.
Several Red Hawks had productive days as well. David Bilhorn (113) finished third, Gage Gross (150) took third and Kaiden Fitterer (157) took second.
Declan Koch of Neenah, who is a perfect 31-0 on the year, pinned Fitterer at 3:11.
