Thursday, the board unanimously approved a bid of $3,081,522 from Sweeper Metal Fabricators Corporation Drumright of Oklahoma on the detention doors. Those had been estimated at $4 million.

The low bid came in more than $1 million under the next lowest, and District 14 Supervisor Mike Zoril credited that to facilities manager Brent Sutherland advertising for the bids in 14 places.

“Seeing there is more than $1 million gap between the low bid and the next highest bid means we are saving money, which is great,” Zoril said.

The county is expected to vote on the entire facility package—which will feature a new jail and law enforcement facility on the same site as the current Pinehurst facility—in July. The estimate provided before the board voted to fund it in March was $96 million.

Bostwick said the board, which normally schedules only one meeting in July, would meet a second time that month to approve the bids. He proposed meeting either Monday, July 25, or Thursday, July 28.
