JANESVILLE ��� Mercyhealth is pleased to welcome Brandyn Castro, MD, neurosurgeon and Medical Director of Neurosciences, to Mercyhealth Neurosurgery Center.
���My philosophy of care is centered on treating every patient as an individual and involving them in every step of the decision-making process,��� said Castro. ���I believe patients deserve a clear understanding of both their condition and my recommendations for treatment. My goal is to provide compassionate, high-level neurosurgical care using the latest techniques and technology, while helping patients and their families feel supported and confident throughout their journey.���
After earning her medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, Castro served a neurological surgery residency at the University of Chicago. She then completed a neuro-oncology fellowship at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Castro currently serves as assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Castro���s special interests include:
- Comprehensive adult neurosurgery, including cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders
- Brain, spine, and spinal cord tumors, with expertise in neurosurgical oncology
- Minimally invasive and endoscopic brain and spine surgery
- Complex degenerative surgery, including fusion, disc replacement, and revisions
- Functional neurosurgery, including epilepsy surgery, trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari malformation, and other disorders of the nervous system
- Vivistim post-stroke recovery implant
