EDGERTON — Retired Col. Eugene Dale Schwartzlow, USMC has been selected for inclusion in the Marquis Who’s Who.
In the Marquis Who’s Who, individuals are profiled on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Schwartzlow started in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966, dedicating over three decades to military service before retiring as a colonel in 1997.
His military journey was marked by signicant international experience that includes a year of service in Vietnam and a total of 15 years spent overseas. Among his notable achievements was his role as the commander of the Defense Information System Agency in Europe, where he oversaw 34 networks and systems supporting the State Department and all military services.
Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Schwartzlow transitioned to the private sector, joining NextiraOne as a data manager. Schwartzlow’s post-military career also led him to embracing his passion for writing.
His work includes “Airborne Marine,†“Thirty Years, Ten Months and Nine Days,†“1384 Short Stories†and a collection of 40 books covering topics from scuba diving and cave explorations in Okinawa to camping adventures.
Schwartzlow has also been an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2708, the American Legion in Wisconsin and the Marine Corps League Janesville Detachment. He also served as co-founder and first chairman of the Edgerton Alumni Foundation, as well as chairman of the Edgerton Bowhunters.
Schwartzlow earned a bachelor of business admistration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1966. He has been recognized with numerous awards for military service and bravery, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Combat V for service in Vietnam, the Defense Meritorious Service for his tenure at the Pentagon, the Meritorious Service Medal from the Marine Corps Forces Pacific; three Navy Commendation medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge; the Defense Information Systems Agency Badge and the Distinguished Service Medal.
