The victim left the residence and it was believed the suspect, Zachary Cervantes, was still inside, a release said. After deputies were unable to contact Cervantes through several methods, they established a perimeter and deployed SWAT and negotiations teams.

Negotiators eventually established communication with the Cervantes, who later surrendered.

Cervantes was arrested on tentative charges of disorderly conduct, battery, and strangulation and suffocation, all with domestic violence enhancers, and a probation violation. He is scheduled to appear in court at 3 p.m. Monday.
