JANESVILLE — Fifteen Rock County educators took part in this year’s Rock Externship Program at Blackhawk Technical College this past week, which allowed them to shadow occupations or disciplines to gain insights that can be brought back to classrooms.
Participants were from Beloit Turner High School, Beloit Memorial High School, The Lincoln Academy, Craig High School and the Beloit Learning Academy. Participants were placed at companies as a part of the externship.
Educators gathered at the college’s Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning for a day focused on teamwork and curriculum development.
Now in its third year, the Rock Externship Program is supported by Blackhawk Technical College and Rock County 5.0.
Stephanie Aasen of Beloit Turner was placed at JP Cullen. Brian Michels of Beloit Memorial was placed at CCI. James Hansel of Beloit Memorial was placed at Scot Forge. Sarah Schwarm of Beloit Memorial was placed at Rock County Public Health. Amanda Sellen of Beloit Memorial was placed at IKI. Leanna Schultz of The Lincoln Academy was placed at Seneca Foods. Brook Ruston of Beloit Memorial was placed at Shine. Julie Horvath, Sheridan Michels, Breja Fink, Brian Denu, Amy Wargowsky and Mark Schildt, all of Beloit Memorial, were placed at Alliant Energy. Kimberly Schawantes of the Beloit Learning Academy was also placed at Alliant Energy.
