Power outage

This is an ongoing story that will be updated as more information becomes available. JANESVILLE — A significant power outage was reported on Janesville’s north side Monday morning. According to Alliant Energy’s website, , nearly 400 customers lost power.

A spokesperson for Alliant Energy shared in an email shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, in response to a 69蹤獲 inquiry, that, at 7:41 a.m. an electrical outage impacted 383 customers in Janesville. Alliant Energy assessed the situation and determined the cause was due to an animal interaction. The crew was able to restore power to all customers by 8:18 a.m.

However, as of approximately 10:20 a.m., Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center Emergency North continued to experience internet connectivity issues due to the outage. Front desk associates also told a 69蹤獲 reporter that while backup generators were employed to continue offering medical care, power had not yet been fully restored.

The Alliant Energy spokesperson at 4:30 p.m. Monday reiterated the earlier statement saying that on their end power was shown to be restored at 8:18 a.m. They said if customers were still having issues they should reach out to Alliant directly.

The Deerfield Drive Walmart Supercenter lost power between the start of the outage and approximately 8:30 a.m., according to customer service representative Chad Mitchell. Product loss was prevented by covering refrigerated and frozen foods and avoiding opening cold food storage areas.

While grocery retailers ALDI, Target and Woodmans were not affected by the outage, other retailers in the area including Festival Foods and Blains Farm & Fleet both briefly experienced the outage, according to store associates who spoke with a 69蹤獲 reporter. Neither store experienced product loss.

The Rock County 911 Communications Center on Monday morning posted a link to Alliant Energys outage map on its Facebook page.

A spokesperson for the 911 Center told The 69蹤獲 shortly after 9 a.m. that they had heard from multiple businesses and local residents affected by the outage. The spokesperson said the outage was along Highway 14 on the citys north side. The 911 Center had no information on the cause or when power might be restored.
