JANESVILLE — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction wants to hear from Janesville residents as it takes input for its new strategic plan.
DPI representatives will lead a community engagement session in the cafeteria of Marshall Middle School, 25 S. Pontiac Drive, from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1.
The DPI has been gathering feedback for several months in communities statewide, at sessions as far north as Bayfield and in DeForest in Dane County. This will be the 18th session it has led.
According to a DPI release, the department is crafting a strategic plan around its mission, “to advance equitable, transformative and sustainable educational experiences that develop learners, schools, libraries and communities in Wisconsin.”
The DPI says it also wants its core values of “love, belonging, honor, humility and integrity,” to be incorporated into the strategic plan.
DPI Communications Director Abigail Swetz, said the sessions have been divided into breakout groups to “avoid people talking over each other.”
The strategic planning process is important because “education is changing. It has been changing since I was a student and it has been even more in the last five years,” Swetz said.
She said that education issues can “impact every person in the state.”
An online survey related to the process is available at .
The DPI has been working on developing a strategic plan since March 2023, according to its website, progressing through phases. It expects to release its strategic plan in September.
