MILTON – The Milton Common Council on Tuesday night approved a rezone of four parcels, just shy of eight acres, for 25 three-bedroom houses. The site is off Journey Hills Road on the north side of the city, west of South Janesville Street.
Per the decision by the council, the land, owned by Jeffery Leason of Normington Excating Inc., will be rezoned to accommodate high-density single-family housing of 10 or more homes with a planned unit development overlay. Currently it's zoned for only three homes.
The zoning would allow for flexibility with density requirements and with setbacks as well, according to a memo to the council from City Administrator Paul Hensch.
Leason plans to develop the site with single-family housing that would not fit on traditionally-zoned lots, according to a memo to the council.
Leason will now bring a complete site plan to the city. An easement to an adjacent property owner with a private drive to access to their property will also be needed before the start of construction.
Planned are primarily single-floor houses ranging from 1,600-2,100 square feet with 2-3 bedroom floor plans. All houses will have two-car garages.
The planning commission recommended approving the rezone. The council waived second and third readings of an ordinance to rezone the parcels.
