JANESVILLE — The Rock County Salvation Army is seeking gift donations to ensure a festive Christmas for children and families through its Angel Tree Program.
Donations are due by Tuesday. Dec. 12. They can be dropped off at The Salvation Army, 514 Sutherland Ave., Janesville.
This year, the number of individuals needing help has significantly increased, with 660 children and 281 families, surpassing last year’s figures, a news release said.
In an effort to make this holiday season memorable for children age 10 to 13, as well as families, the Salvation Army is asking for higher-value gifts in the $30 to $50 range.
While there is a surplus of small dollar toys, the organization aims to provide a diverse and fulfilling Christmas experience for every child, it said.
Community members are urged to contribute and make a meaningful impact by donating toys for these age groups and higher-value gifts.
“We have witnessed a substantial increase in need this year, and our commitment is to ensure that every child in every family, and those without children, experiences the magic of Christmas,” Corps Officer Lt. Jennifer Rysdyk said. “The community’s generosity has always been our driving force, and we believe that, together, we can make a significant difference and create lasting memories for these families.”
In addition to the 281 families receiving gifts, the Salvation Army is extending its support to provide Christmas meals. A total of 60 food baskets will be distributed to families without children, ensuring everyone in the community can experience the warmth of the holiday season with a Christmas meal.
Additionally, the Salvation Army Rock County continues to receive inquiries from families seeking to register for toys. Families in need are encouraged to contact the Salvation Army at (608) 757-8300 to inquire about registration and available assistance.
