EVANSVILLE — Rock County Sheriff Curt Fell announced Friday that the last Cops and Bobbers event for 2024 will be on Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Lake Leota Park, 5 Antes Dr., Evansville.
Children ages 7-12 who participate will fish from the shore of the lake with assistance from sheriff’s office staff. Check-in will start at 9:45 a.m. An adult guardian is required to be present at drop-off.
There are 25 spots available that will be filled on a first-come basis.
Guardians may register their kids online at . Upon submitting the registration form, there will be a confirmation message.
Life jackets, fishing gear and lunch will be provided. Participants will receive a Cops and Bobbers t-shirt.
The sheriff’s office hosts three Cops and Bobbers youth fishing events each summer in partnership with the Cops and Kids Foundation, an area nonprofit that offers programs and services that provide law enforcement with tools necessary to implement community service, according to the Rock County website.
“The primary goal of Cops & Bobbers, is to teach kids how to fish,†the Cops & Bobbers webpage on the Rock County website states. “Cops & Bobbers aims to get kids hooked on fishing rather than drugs and crime. During the event, youth participants fish alongside cops and other Sheriff’s Office staff.â€
