Town of Beloit has signed preliminary deal for Meta data center
TOWN OF BELOIT — The Town of Beloit has verified it has signed a pre-development agreement with a company involved in the development of data centers in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin as well as in Indiana and Ohio.
The property under consideration is 430 acres along Town Line Road, South Prairie Avenue and East Philhower Road.
Town of Beloit Administrator John Malizio said there are many steps yet to be taken before a data center is possibly built, and the agreement will keep the town from losing money if the center is not built.
“To date, the town, as it would with any proposed development project, has engaged in very preliminary discussions with the property owners, neighboring municipalities, and Cambrin LLC regarding the Town’s processes, regulations, and timing,” Malizio said in an email. “Given the substantial due diligence that will likely be involved, and expenses relating thereto, the Town did enter into a pre-development agreement with Cambrin LLC to ensure that the Town’s costs and expenses could be recovered. No applications, site plans, or proposals have been submitted to Town staff or elected officials.”
The property is owned by Rock Road Companies Inc. of Janesville.
The town board approved negotiating the development agreement back in June.
There are 59 data centers in Wisconsin, operated by 30 providers, according to , a platform for data center research, advisory and procurement.
In nearby Janesville, city officials have been working with Viridian Acquisitions LLC on a proposed data center on about 250 acres of land on the former General Motors assembly plant property.
