MILTON — The Milton School District lifted a soft lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a federal investigation in the area concluded.
Federal law enforcement told Superintendent Rich Dahman Tuesday morning that an “online exchange” was concerning and needed to be an investigated, the district said in a bulletin to families.
“There was not a direct threat made against any Milton school, and no broad threat to the community,” the district said.
Classes and the district’s lunch schedule rolled out as usual, but students and staff were not allowed outside during the soft lockdown. The district refers to soft-lockdowns — ones in which the students and staff are not locked inside classrooms, but rather are free to move around the school building but not allowed outside — as “SECURES,” a new public safety designation the district uses to designate that the schools are secured, but are not believed to be under any direct, active threat.
The district did not disclose any further details to the school community.
The 69 has reached out to the Milton Police District for more information on the investigation that prompted the lockdown. As of late Tuesday, the police department had not responded.
This report will be updated when more information becomes available.
