JANESVILLE A semitrailer fire in the 200 block of East Conde Street in Janesville Thursday morning prompted evacuation of businesses near the scene.
East Conde is a dead-end street on the citys south side that is primarily industrial.
The fire prompted a response from not only the Janesville Fire Department, but a fire crew from the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport.
Officials said the airport crew had access to a type of fire suppression foam needed because the semitrailer contained ethyl alcohol, which is highly flammable.
There were also electronics and hazmat materials in the trailer later found unaffected affected by the fire, Janesville Fire Department Battalion Chief Josh Uecker said.
After firefighters were able to gain access to the trailer, they found only a palette and forklift in the trailer had burned.
It was like everything you bought from Walmart was put in one truck. Since we didnt know what was in there, we had to assume everything was on fire, Uecker said.
Crews extinguished the fire in about 25 minutes.
While firefighters worked, people from nearby businesses evacuated to the Pepsi Beverages parking lot, which is near the end of the street in the 500 block.
A 69蹤獲 reporter at the scene on Beloit Avenue at the closure of Conde Street saw traffic slow around 10 a.m.
Semis started to park on Beloit Ave. as their drivers awaited access to East Conde.
While other motorists drove around them, Janesville police officers were stationed to direct traffic.
No injuries were reported.
