For 48 years, I’ve been an ordained minister seeking to live out the Scripture. While I know there are various ways to interpret Scripture and follow the Holy Word, I cannot find any way in Scripture to justify the actions of our current administration’s cuts of USAID, the gutting Medicaid, the threatening of services to our veterans and social security to our seniors, doing nothing about the rising cost of groceries, and on and on. Here are two passages I’d love to hear how those who call themselves Christian while supporting the current administration’s actions, get around Scripture passages like these:
Matthew 25: 35-37
I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.’
Isaiah 58: 1-9
Do you call this a fast,
a day acceptable to the LORD?
This, rather, is the fasting that I wish:
releasing those bound unjustly,
untying the thongs of the yoke;
Setting free the oppressed,
breaking every yoke;
Sharing your bread with the hungry,
sheltering the oppressed and the homeless;
Clothing the naked when you see them,
and not turning your back on your own.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, (Is 58:1-9)
