Sen. Ron Johnson and Rep. Bryan Steil: While we have just witnessed an almost unconceivable year, the events of Wednesday Jan. 7, require you to make a decision of where you stand once and for all.
A 37-year-old woman was shot to death in her car by ICE officers, as a direct result of the policies and orders promulgated by President Trump. As shocking as that event was, worse still was President Trump’s response on his “Truth Social” media.
A direct quote: “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.” (emphasis added.)
I have viewed the video and hope you have too. Given the obviously false statement about the officer “…hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital,” there are two possibilities:
Either Trump is not in touch with reality (claiming the obviously uninjured officer is “recovering in the hospital."
Or Trump is deliberately misleading the public (or “lying”, if you will) by making factually incorrect statements.
In either case, this is unacceptable. If his mental state is such that he actually believes his statement, then it is your duty to insist the vice president and cabinet begin the process of applying the 25 amendment and removing him from office. If that is not the case, then I expect you to support impeachment proceedings against him for deliberately misleading the nation (again, “lying” to most of us) about a grave injury directly caused by actions he has authorized.
Should you not take one of those two steps, I and the rest of the nation must assume you approve of his actions --- and as such you are not worthy of your office either, and I would then urge all my fellow citizens to oppose your future government service by voting you out or any other legal means possible.
