Until the Republicans in Congress lost their voice, their courage and their spine America stood for goodness, supporting freedom, fairness, human dignity and doing good around the world.
America is pulling away from Europe and likely to leave Ukraine in Putin’s grasp. Now we have an administration that threatens to forcefully annex Greenland and Canada.
Trump is destroying free trade and the world’s economic order, imposing grossly unfair tariffs to punish friends and foes who have trade surpluses with our country.
At home he is bullying law firms and universities into compliance and punishing free speech. We are now a nation hell bent on vengeance and domination not interest in the good of others nor even our own citizenry.
Trump’s budget director openly stated he wanted federal workers to be viewed as villains and they should feel trauma in their jobs. Those now in charge appear unqualified and are more interested in seeing people suffer or at least experiencing pain and humiliation.
This administration seems to hold that the strong do what they want and the weak must suffer.. The rule of law is pushed aside and any restraints on the executive branch must be eviscerated.
Oversight and watchdogs once in place are neutered or fired. Truth is abandoned and lying is the accepted language.
Our country seeks worldly power not through civility but rather by aggression. Law does not apply when migrants are deprived of due process and shipped to foreign prisons while January 6 rioters are praised and given pardons.
The Congressional Republicans say nothing and do nothing. They are merely a caucus of bobble-heads who nod ceaselessly as Trump steals not only their lawmaking responsibilities but even their ability to control federal monies.
If these Republicans don’t stand up to the bully and take back their seats of government, Trump’s lawless wave will swallow all of us.
