I am a strong proponent of Trumps tariff initiative. I, like most Americans, have felt the impact. One only has to look at the dramatic drop in the stock market.
In actuality we have done this to ourselves. Many decades have passed where we have become a service economy versus an industrial economy we once were.
We have allowed ourselves to move the making of our goods to foreign companies because of cheap labor and other factors. We have purposely avoided the reality of where we are…..trade and non-trade tariffs.
We can’t afford to continue to kick this down the road. If we do we will eventually be totally dependent on foreign countries. We need to be liberated and reclaim our independence.
Getting rid of tariffs on the U.S. is just the beginning. Another factor are non-tariff trade barriers (cheating) which will require major internal shifts in target countries.
An example may be countries like Vietnam who are scrambling to offer no tax on U.S. imports after Trump hit the country with 46% tariffs, but that move isn’t enough. It’s the “cheating” that will go on.
The “non-tariff cheating” could be letting China route its exports through a country to avoid tariffs, stealing intellectual property, and levying a value-added tax on products.
