Authorities in Ohio have reduced the evacuation zone around a ruptured chemical tank. Toledo Fire & Rescue decreased the zone from a half-mile to a quarter-mile radius Thursday. The evacuation order remains in place until the explosion risk passes. Residents and businesses outside the area can return. The rupture occurred late Tuesday night. MC Tank Transport said the tank contained glycidyl methacrylate, used in plastics and coatings. City leaders are allowing the chemical to vent, as stopping the leak could be more dangerous. The tank is still releasing material, but the risk is decreasing.
