JANESVILLE – The striking down on Monday of Act 10, a 2011 law that ended collective bargaining for most public workers in Wisconsin including teachers, was the result of a more than decade-long push-back, the Janesville Education Association says.

The Janesville School Board has approved a 5.9% cost-of-living pay increase for the district’s certified teaching staff.
The Janesville Education Association teachers union has organized a petition asking the Janesville School District to use federal ESSER III funding on bonuses for district employees.
The district will continue to require masking inside district buildings until either 80% of staff and students in the district are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or Rock County achieves a low disease transmission rate as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A school district official and Dave Groth, president of the local teachers union, expressed differing views on whether the changes would help retain staff.
