JANESVILLE – The striking down on Monday of Act 10, a 2011 law that ended collective bargaining for most public workers in Wisconsin including teachers, was the result of a more than decade-long push-back, the Janesville Education Association says.

JANESVILLE – The tumult between the Janesville Education Association and the Janesville School District intensified Thursday night when the JEA’s president directly refuted a line item on an upcoming school board agenda regarding a supposed tentative agreement between the two parties.

The Janesville Education Association teachers union has organized a petition asking the Janesville School District to use federal ESSER III funding on bonuses for district employees.

The district will continue to require masking inside district buildings until either 80% of staff and students in the district are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or Rock County achieves a low disease transmission rate as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A school district official and Dave Groth, president of the local teachers union, expressed differing views on whether the changes would help retain staff.

Janesville elementary school teachers are asking the Janesville School Board to reconsider its decision to open those schools after the Thanksgiving break.
