Denis Bouanga scored late in the second half and Los Angeles FC escaped with a 1-1 draw after trailing the Portland Timbers for 75 minutes. David Da Costa took a pass from Kristoffer Velde in the 4th minute and scored his third goal this season to give Portland a 1-0 lead that it carried into the 79th minute. That’s when Bouanga used assists from Jude Terry and Aaron Long to knot the score with his 11th goal of the season. James Pantemis finished off a 10-save night for Portland (8-9-4) — including his final one on a shot by Bouanga in the final minute of stoppage time — to keep it tied. Hugo Lloris turned away one shot for LAFC (10-7-5)
Onni Valakari and Elias Achouri scored first-half goals to help San Diego FC beat the Colorado Rapids 3-0. After a Rapids giveaway in their defensive third, Valakari opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a first-touch shot from point-blank range. Gabriel Pirani capped the scoring in the 71st, his second goal in as many games for San Diego (7-8-6).The Rapids (9-11-1) had won three straight, and four of five, all by shutout, since the World Cup break.
Kelvin Yeboah scored two goals to help Minnesota United beat the San Jose Earthquakes 5-1 to snap a nine-game winless streak. Minnesota (7-7-7) won for the first time since a 3-2 victory at Columbus on May 2. The Earthquakes (10-8-3) have lost four in a row and are winless in six straight. Drake Callender had four saves for Minnesota. JoaquÃn Pereyra, Marcus Caldeira and Mauricio González each scored a goal. Timo Werner converted from the penalty spot to open the scoring in the fourth minute.
Brian White scored two first-half goals, Edier Ocampo added a goal and an assist, and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat FC Dallas 5-0. The Whitecaps (12-4-4) lead the Western Conference with 40 points, two more than second-place Houston. Dallas (9-6-6), which had won back-to-back games, had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped. Emmanuel Sabbi scored in the 11th minute to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead and Bruno Caicedo capped the scoring in the 68th. Yohei Takaoka had one save for the Whitecaps.
Teenager Cavan Sullivan scored early in the first half for Philadelphia, but Austin FC defender Brendan Hines-Ike answered three minutes later for a 1-1 draw with the Union. Rookie Damian Las finished with two saves for Austin (5-10-6) in his second start. Andre Blake saved four shots in his 285th start for Philadelphia (5-10-6), which has gone 4-0-2 in its last six matches.
Simon Becher had a first-half goal to end a long scoreless streak by Houston keeper Jonathan Bond, and rookie Dante Polvara added his first MLS goal in the second half for the winner as St. Louis City beat the Dynamo 2-1 to extend their club-record unbeaten run to 11. Roman Bürki totaled three saves for St. Louis City, (9-6-6) which has gone 8-0-3 during its unbeaten run. Bond saved two shots for Houston (12-7-2), which entered with a 6-0-2 record in its previous eight matches as it climbed to the top of the Western Conference.
