U.S. health officials say a food-poisoning outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts has sickened people in 15 states. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 55 cases have been documented, including four hospitalizations. The outbreak involves salmonella and different strains of E. coli. Officials say the cases are linked to alfalfa sprouts from Everything Sprouts, a Minnesota grower. The sprouts were sold under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brands. Last year, the FDA warned Everything Sprouts about several concerns, including a leaking roof.
Minnesota health officials are warning against eating certain alfalfa sprouts linked to a rare outbreak involving multiple bacteria. Officials report 23 people in Minnesota have fallen ill with E. coli or salmonella, with two hospitalized. One person had both bacteria. And three different strains of E. coli are involved. Wisconsin investigators identified 18 additional cases. The sprouts, produced by Everything Sprouts, are sold under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brands. Officials are working to identify the contamination source.
