JOHNSON CREEK Johnson Creek is at a bustling crossroads. It is a popular destination for shopping and, we recently discovered, a good meal. Hi-Way Harrys, across from the mall is a welcomed sight from the road with its angular architecture created by James Dresser who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright.
MILTON A jam-packed parking lot should be a good indication of a popular restaurant. We found that and more at Marys Cafe in Milton, located on Front Street adjacent to Merchant Row.
CAMBRIDGE My husband Bob and I recently traveled to Cambridge, home of Rowe Pottery Works, the Midwest FireFest, and Matt Kenseth. We joined sister-in-law Tammy and her husband, Gene, at Plow Restaurant, a mid-way point between Janesville and Madison.
The chic and intimate setting is subdued with carpeted floors and dim lighting. White linen tablecloths and soft cushioned chairs felt luxurious but still maintained a casual feel. With couples obviously on a date and families with small children, the dining area had an inclusive and welcoming feel to it.
Nelis is very similar to other local American food restaurants. The menu is extensive so there are plenty of options and they serve breakfast all day long. They also have several specials each day. The prices are good, particularly the senior specials.
The small diner on Parkview Avenue has a license plate perched in the window that spells out Cindys. It is a bright and cheery place with lemon-themed decor which youll see in the wallpaper, centerpieces and even the plates. Faux brick covers the bottom half of the walls with a modern beadboard above it.
JANESVILLE You would never know that Luckys Saloon was formerly the home of a bank. It has the feel of a hometown neighborhood gathering spot with its huge bar that is the centerpiece of the room. In fact it has that saloon feel where everything and everyone is in one big room.
DELAVAN We were so excited to learn there was a new Indian restaurant nearby. We were also confused. Is it somehow an offshoot of Hernandez? Hernandez, one of the best Mexican restaurants, sold after 40 years, at the end of 2022. They kept the Hernandez employees, decor, and menu. They added a second Indian menu.
EDGERTON Bar food is what comes to mind when the term tavern or pub is used but that definitely isnt the case at the Red Baron in Edgerton. They claim to have the best pizza around and we decided to put that to the test.
