JANESVILLE — After Friday's first round of the , Luke Taebel of Holmen and Griffin Pohl of Sturgeon Bay and are tied at 64.
Taebel, who just finished his freshman year at UW-Eau Claire, was 1-under on the front nine and 7-under on the back nine. Pohl, who just completed eligibility at Illinois Wesleyan, was 5-under on the front nine and 3-under on the back.
Dustin Schwab of Lodi, who won in 2024 and 2021, is tied for eighth at 67. The winner is 2022, Mason Schmidtke of Sheboygan is tied for fourth at 66.
Riverside Golf Course par is 72.
Milton junior, Kade Wieland finished double bogey and bogey. He was 5-under but is now 2-under and is tied for 47th. His brother, Brett, who golfs at UW-Green Bay is tied for 29th and shot -3.
The WIAA Division 1 individual champion from this past boys golf season, Waunakee senior Peyton Albers, is also tied for 29th with a 69.
Albers said he thought he played well.
"I made a lot of birdies (six) which was great. I just made a couple mistakes on the greens that cost me a few shots. I hit great drives and approach shots," Albers said. "Overall, I'm pleased with how a round of 69."
Recent Janesville Craig grad, Alex Falligant shot 71 and is tied for 61st with Burlington native, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS football television analyst, Tony Romo. Edgerton recent grad, Caleb Kern, shot a 68.
