With a night off from chasing high school baseball and softball scores Tuesday, I decided to check in and see how some former area ball players have been faring with their Division I programs this season.

Spoiler alert: Jake Schaffner and Gavin Kilen remain very good at baseball.

Gavin Kilen helped lead Milton to the WIAA Division 1 state title in 2022. He is playing in his second season with Louisville, where he’s currently on a nine-game hitting streak and among team leaders in batting average and OPS (on-base plus slugging percentages).
