BURLINGTON — Milton squared off against Burlington Friday night at Burlington High School in a nonconference match.
While the Red Hawks scored two goals, they struggled to get their offense going in a 2-2 draw. In net, sophomore Hailey Drout made nine saves to Burlington’s four.
“This was only our second game on turf this season, so I think that was definitely a factor,” Milton coach Ryan Wagner said. “It plays very differently and the speed was giving us troubles throughout the midfield.”
Senior Nayeli Kilen assisted sophomore Olivia Reichelt in the 57th minute for the game’s first goal.
“She finished off a nice through ball from Yeli. I thought that would spark us a little but Burlington kept fighting,” Wagner said.
A free kick outside the box tied the game at one. Kilen scored off a penalty in the 75th minute, putting Milton ahead. Burlington responded with a penalty kick of its own – with just four seconds remaining – once again tying the game.
“The girls tried to kill the game off in Burlington’s corner, but they were able to draw a foul and work the ball up to our half,” Wagner said. “Hoping we can bounce back this week against DeForest on Tuesday and get a big victory. We haven’t had a big signature victory yet this year so that would be a nice one.”
The Red Hawks (8-6-1, 3-3) head to DeForest to take on the Norskies on Tuesday, May 19, at 7 p.m.
