VERONA — What a difference a day makes.
There’s a reason Edgerton coach Terry Dickinson wasn’t pleased with his team’s Round 1 performance at the WIAA boys state golf championship Monday at University Ridge.
It’s because he felt like his team could do better—and on Tuesday they did just that, shooting a 303, 11 strokes better than what they did on Monday.
“That’s what I expected, for them to be in that range. They proved today what they can do,” Dickinson said.

Leading the charge was sophomore Owen Scharlau, who shot par, 72. Drew Gunderson shot a 74. Caleb Kern will finish tied for 14th overall and shot a 78. Owen Wagie shot a 79 and Charlie Johnson shot a 90.
“Kern and Wagie lead us to this point, but the other ones carried through,” Dickinson said.
For Scharlau, the sophomore came into day looking to make an impact.
“Shooting 84 yesterday kind of lit a fire under me. That’s unacceptable at this level, this late in the season,” Scharlau said. “So I just tried to do my part.”
With Scharlau’s contribution, and a team that wanted to have a bounce-back day, the Crimson Tide finish tied for fourth place with Oconomowoc at 617 strokes apiece.
“They should be very proud of themselves,” Dickinson said. “We’re competing against schools that are three, four, probably even five times our size.”
“We’re really happy with fourth place,” Scharlau said.
