Aeoden Sinclair stayed on schedule for his third consecutive Division 1 state wrestling championship Friday night at the Kohl Center in Madison.
He took down his semifinal opponent, No. 4 seed Lincoln McCarty of River Falls, twice in 30 seconds before ending the match with a pin at the 51-second mark to advance to Saturday's championship match at 215 pounds.
Sinclair's opponent in the title match will be No. 2 seed Garett Kawczynski of Port Washington.
Tyson Peach joined his Red Hawks teammate in a D-1 championship match at 138 pounds. He dominated his match against No. 3 seed Collin McDowell of Hartland Arrowhead, going up 5-0 in the first period with a takedown and three-point near fall.
He added three more points in the second and won the third 3-2 to take an 11-2 major decision. His Saturday opponent will be No. 1 seed Declan Koch of Neenah.
At 175 pounds in Division 1, Janesville Parker's Cayden Brandenburg's championship campaign came to an end after a tight match against No. 3 seed Benjamin Ott of Nicolet.
Ott scored the first point of the low-scoring semifinal with an escape in the second period. Brandenburg quickly tied it up in the third, but Ott got the match's only takedown with 50 seconds to go in the match. Brandenburg escaped with 33 seconds left but couldn't score again as Ott won the 3-2 decision. The loss was the first Brandenburg suffered this season.
Brandenburg will be back in action Saturday morning in a consolation semifinal against Mukwonago's Hayden Chitwood, who Brandenburg beat for his sectional championship last weekend. The winner of the consolation brackets at state are the third-place finishers in each weight class.
David Bilhorn of Milton and Brayden Garey of Janesville Parker both lost their opening consolation matches Friday, ending their tournaments.
Division 2
Evansville's Danny Heiser won his first two matches of this year's state tournament Friday at 150 pounds in Division 2.
His first win was a 58-second pin of Taden Holldorf from Baldwin-Woodville. His semifinal opponent was a familiar one, Joe Lohmar of Brodhead/Juda. Heiser, a junior who will eventually join Milton's Sinclair on the University of Missouri wrestling team, racked up a 15-0 technical fall against his Rock Valley rival.
Heiser will take on Max Ronsman of Luxemburg-Casco for his third state title. Lohmar went into the consolation bracket with a chance to finish third.
Lohmar's teammate Marcus McIntyre also will wrestle for third Saturday. He upset his first opponent Friday, No 3 seed Mason Mau of Belleville/New Glarus/Monticello, with a pinfall victory early in the third period of their quarterfinal match.
McIntyre then lost his semifinal against No. 2 seed Cole Bozile of Oconto Falls.
Division 3
Sam Schwengels and Wes Egan of Orfordville Parkview/Albany both fell out of their championship brackets Friday but won their first consolation matches to reach the semifinals.
Schwengels took a 6-1 decision over Kemper Robinson of Kewaunee in a consolation quarterfinal at 190 pounds, and Egan pinned his consolation quarterfinal opponent, Zach Hellendrung of Boyceville, at 2:48 to advance.
Girls
Milton's Madi Peach and Beloit Turner's Sydney Andrews won their quarterfinal matches Friday and will wrestle for state championships Saturday night.
Peach, the top seed at 126 pounds, continued her dominant state run with a third consecutive first-period pin. She took down No. 4 seed Avery Losiewicz of Medford Area with 1:18 left on the clock and got the pin with 19 seconds to go. Peach will wrestle the bracket's third seed, Natalie Klavetter of Hudson, for the state title.
Andrews won her semifinal match Friday night in upset fashion. The third-seeded Turner wrestler beat No. 2 seed Shelly Bullman by an 11-7 decision. Andrews scored the only points of the first period with a takedown, then grabbed a 4-0 lead in the second with a reversal after starting in the bottom position and held off Bullman from there.
Andrews' finals opponent Saturday will be the 145-pound bracket's eighth seed Harlow Skenandore of Pulaski, who took down the top seed and the fourth seed on her way to the finals.
Two more Milton girls wrestlers, Clara Jauch at 100 pounds and Makenzie Usher at 114, both won two consolation matches Friday to reach the consolation semifinals Saturday.
