BROOKFIELD — Milwaukee Fire Post 426 19u scored four runs in the fourth inning and claimed a 7-4 win over Janesville Post 205 Thursday evening.
Keegan Leeder got the start for Janesville, going four innings and allowing six hits while giving up five earned runs.
“Keegan really, really pounded the zone tonight,” Post 205 Coach Brady Sendelbach said. “He kept guys off balance, was getting weak contact for a while.”
Around the third inning is when rain came pouring down.
That’s also when Post 426 broke up the 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single following a pair of walks by Leeder. In the next inning, Milwaukee got its first two batters on base with a double and single on a bunt. A triple by AJ Clark scored three runs.
“Once things got slippery, like the mound and the ball, (Leeder) started to struggle a little bit,” Sendelbach said. “But he really battled out there tonight.”
Post 205 got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning and scored four runs. Sam Hoium doubled to score the first run and later scored on a passed ball. Later in the inning Easton Zastrow doubled to score two more runs.
“Our bats finally started to put the ball in play a little bit and challenge their fielders,” Sendelbach said.
Zastrow also got two innings on the mound. He only let up one hit and struck out four.
Janesville returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a rematch against Orfordville at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex.
