Janesville and Kenai River combined for 15 goals for the second straight night Saturday with the Brown Bears beating the Jets 8-7 in overtime in Soldotna, Alaska, to clinch a series win in a three-game set scheduled to conclude Sunday night.
Kenai River took a 2-0 into the first intermission, then the teams traded goals in the middle period until Jets forward Mason Kesselring cut his team's deficit to one at 4-3 at 18:03 of the second.
The Brown Bears scored twice in the next 12 seconds of game time, at 18:12 and 18:15, to go up 6-3 at the second break.
Landon MacDonald's second goal of the game put Kenai River up 7-3 at 3:27 of the third, but Janesville refused to give in.
Nick Sajevic scored at 5:13 and 5:26 of the third to halve the deficit, Kesselring scored again on a power play at 7:00, then Sajevic scored his third goal of the period to tie the game at the 13:17 mark.
While Sajevic had a one-period hat trick, Conner Brown assisted on all four Janesville goals in the third period and also assisted on the Jets' first goal of the game back in the second for five total on the night.
His points Saturday night put Brown at 65 points for the season, now the record for a defenseman in NAHL history.
The magic ran out for Janesville, though. Neither team could break the tie in the third, and Kenai River's Luke Hause scored the game-winner, his second goal of the night, at 2:09 in the overtime period.
