JANESVILLE --- A 47-year-old man who was on probation for a 2024 domestic violence incident was arrested Sunday night for attempted homicide following a domestic disturbance at a Janesville hotel.
Police were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday to Redwood Motel, 3912 N. Hackbarth Road for a reported disturbance, with an injured female victim.
Jon Schneider, of Janesville, was arrested and subsequently charged Tuesday in Rock County Circuit Court with four felonies, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first degree reckless injury with a domestic abuse enhancer, strangulation and suffocation with a domestic abuse enhancer, and bail jumping. He was further charged with two misdemeanors, including battery with a domestic abuse enhancer and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse enhancer.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.

A preliminary hearing was set in Rock County Circuit Court for July 18, at 10 a.m., before Rock County Court Commissioner Mason Braunschweig.
Schneider has been arrested before on similar charges.
He was charged in June 2024 in Rock County Circuit Court and found guilty in March 2025 on one felony count of substantial battery with intended bodily harm, one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse enhancer and one misdemeanor count of battery with a domestic abuse enhancer.
He was sentenced to two years of probation on those charges, with requirements including completion of a domestic violence intervention program and was serving that sentence when he was arrested on Sunday.
Schneider remained in custody Tuesday in the Rock County Jail.
