JANESVILLE – A 17-year-old from Beloit was arrested Tuesday for negligent homicide in the death of a passenger when a car he was driving lost control and overturned multiple times in the town of Bradford.
Rock County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a single-vehicle crash with multiple injuries on South Emerald Grove Road and East Larsen Road in the town of Bradford.
According to a release, the 17-year-old was driving a Volkswagen Rabbit northbound on South Emerald Grove Road, just north of East Larsen Road, when he lost control and went into the west ditch. The car rolled multiple times and came to rest in a cornfield on the west side of the road.
A 15-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other youths in the vehicle were transported by EMS to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was also treated at an area hospital and then arrested on one count of homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office, Rock County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team, Rock County Highway Shop, Village of Clinton Police Department, Clinton EMS, Janesville EMS, and Beloit EMS all responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
