MILTON — The Milton School Board approved a preliminary 2024-2025 budget Monday, as the fiscal year starts next week.
According to a presentation by Business Services Director Ross MacPherson at Monday’s meeting, there will be adjustments made to the budget up until the annual meeting on Aug. 26
MacPherson told the board that the district is expecting a $325 per pupil increase in state aid. However, it expecting a slight decrease in third Friday membership, the count of students who live in the district on the third Friday of the school year by up to 1%. Also, it is expecting open enrollment and voucher per pupil payments will increase to $344.
“For the first time in recent years switched from an open enrollment out leaning district to an open enrollment in positive district. We anticipate that to maintain, at least for next year and add that to our calculations for next year,” MacPherson said.
The district is also planning staff wage increases.
“The state aid should be out in the next week. There is a lot of uncertainity of what that is,” MacPherson said.
MacPherson told the board that the state is increasing the low revenue ceiling, which is allowing for some long-term planning and fund operating costs.
This will be the first year since 2020 that the district hasn’t had ESSER COVID-relief funds to use.
The actual budget will also be presented to the school board in October.
