New cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations due to the disease continue to trend downward both statewide and locally, though there still are 8,011 active cases currently in Rock County.
There were 570 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Janesville from Jan. 24 to Monday. In Beloit during the same time frame, 400 new cases were reported. In Edgerton, 251 new cases were reported last week; 111 were reported in Milton; 74 were reported in Evansville; 40 were reported in unincorporated areas of Rock County; and 37 were reported in Clinton, according to the Rock County Public Health Department.
There were 73 new cases countywide Monday, according to the latest available data.
The total number of cases in the county since the pandemic began reached 34,628, and the total amount of deaths reached 292 on Tuesday, according to the health department.
The case rate stood at 1,058 new cases per 100,000 people. Cases are most prevalent among 25- to 34-year-olds in the county. On Jan. 20, there were 40 admitted to Rock County hospitals with COVID-19.
The percentage of the county population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 was 63.8%. The health department reiterated its advice to residents to get vaccinated in a news release Tuesday, a day after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave full approval to Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The release said the Moderna vaccine is widely available in the county, including at the state vaccine clinic held at 1900 Center Ave., Janesville. The clinics hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
On Tuesday, the average number of new cases per day in Wisconsin for the previous seven days was 5,562. The seven-day average of daily deaths in the state was 24, and the seven-day average state positivity rate was 19.3%.
As of Tuesday, 59.5% of the all Wisconsin residents had completed the vaccine series.
Hospital capacity remains low, although it is improving statewide; 91.2% of the state’s hospital beds were in use as of Tuesday, including 92.7% of intensive-care beds.
