EVANSVILLE — The Evansville Community School District is planning four community information sessions to meet with the public about an upcoming operational referendum.
The first two sessions will be in the media room at the high school, 640, S. 5th St., on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Feb. 20. The last session will also be in the high school media room on Thursday, March 21. On Tuesday, March 5, there will be a session in the conference room at the district office, 340 Fair St. And on Monday, March 11, JC McKenna Middle School, 307 S. 1st St., will be the site of another session.
All sessions will start at 6 p.m.
The district has proposed a five-year operating referendum to start in the 2024-25 school year at $2.7 million. It would increase to $3.9 million in 2025-26, $4.6 million in 2026-27, $5.2 million in 2027-28 and $5.9 million in 2028-29.
Approval of the operational referendum would result in an annual estimated tax increase of $147, or $12.25 per month for every $100,000 of a taxpayer’s property value, over the tax rate for 2024-25.
In 2018, district voters approved a $1.2 million operational referendum over five years. That referendum is expiring on June 30. The district will face a $2.4 million shortfall in 2024-25 without a referendum.
The district has set up a referendum information page .
Interim Superintendent Steve Lutzke did not immediately respond to The 69’s request for comment and request for more information on the referendum.
