MILTON — KANDU Industries is blending art and sustainability to bring a personal touch to the community while supporting the clients the organization serves.

Kathy Hansen, executive director of KANDU, shared that the idea for the project came from artist and longtime KANDU supporter Betsy Parker.
“She told me about this art project and how she felt it would be good to add to the production that the nonprofit does,” Hansen said.
Typically, KANDU’s production work includes fixing misprints, labeling and assembling products for major companies such as Hormel and Grainger. However, this new initiative brings a creative shift.
Using bottles donated by local wineries and restaurants, clients cut and etch designs into the glass to create one-of-a-kind art pieces.
“It’s a great way to reuse an item that the businesses would otherwise throw away,” Hansen said.

The Parker Collection Art Glass set, priced at $60 for a set of six, celebrates creativity and community through the legacy of Betsy Parker. A Custom Art Glass option is also available at the same price, with an additional $40 setup fee for personalized logos, messages or graphics.
According to Hansen, the clients enjoy the creative process.
“They have a great time,” she said. “It allows them to be creative and make their own product.”
She said it also will hopefully the funds made through sales will go to helping the organization continue to provide services to Rock County.

The glasses have already gained interest from some of the same wineries and businesses that donated the bottles.
