Wisconsins crowded primary field for Governor was shortened by one candidate this week. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley announced the end of his campaign Thursday.
This campaign was never about one person, he said. It was about a shared belief that Wisconsin deserves leadership that shows up, tells the truth, and gets things done for working families.
As Democrats look toward November, I believe this election is too important for us to be divided. Wisconsin families deserve a governor who can win, govern, and deliver results from Day One.
Fellow Democrat Missy Hughes previously dropped out of the campaign, leaving five Democratic candidates in the running: Madison-area state Rep. Francesca Hong, Madison-area state Senator Kelda Roys, former Department of Administration Secretary Joel Brennan, former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes and current Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez.
Republicans have two candidates gunning for their nomination: U.S. Congressman Tom Tiffany faces token opposition from political newcomer Andy Manske.
The primary takes place Aug. 11, with the general election to follow Nov. 4.
