This op-ed from U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, who represents Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District that includes Janesville, is in response to an editorial that appeared in The 69 last week.
As your voice in Congress, it’s my priority to be available and accessible to you. I write in response to the recent Janesville 69 Editorial regarding town halls.
This year, my first district events were four in-person Listening Sessions to ensure I heard directly from you at the start of the new year. In Janesville, Beloit, Racine, and Kenosha, I made myself available to the 1st District to hear your concerns and answer your questions. Over 200 people attended these sessions. I take listening to my constituents very seriously, which is why since taking office I have prioritized these events. I’ve hosted 38 in-person listening sessions and hold telephone town halls regularly. I hosted a telephone town hall with 2,692 attendees in February, and I look forward to holding an event in March. For anyone who wants to join our monthly events, you can sign up to receive a call on my website any time.
The congressional district consists of more 750,000 people. I do my best to meet directly with as many residents as possible, while balancing votes and committee work in Washington. If you have a question, concern, or opinion, I invite you to contact me by phone at (608) 752-4050, by email at , or by mail at 20 S Main St, Suite 10, Janesville, WI 53545.
I’ll respond to you directly and hope to hear from you.
