Property owners continue to clean up damage from flash-flood waters that poured into buildings in Janesville and Rock County after epic rainfalls Friday night. Rock County remains at risk of ongoing, moderate to severe flooding as the Rock River continues to rise, approaching a predicted crest of near 12 feet at Afton by midweek.
JANESVILLE — Several streets in the city are impassable due to flash flooding, and officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
The Rock River is under a flood watch after days of rain have soaked the ground and filled tributaries. Extended forecasts say the river could jump to nearly 12 feet at Afton by next week — a prospect that's prompted the county to activate sandbag-filling stations in Newville and the town of Rock.
JANESVILLE -- Streets in Sharon, 15 miles east of Beloit, flooded Tuesday amid heavy rain and widespread hail accumulation, with rushing water carrying hail downstream.
“This delay has put the crops a little behind in growth," said Jordan Schuler, regional crop educator for UW-Extension Rock County.
Corn is growing quickly in the Stateline Area thanks to hot weather and recent rains. The crops are recovering from a late planting season.
