VERONA — With pitcher Keegan Leeder keeping the Thundercats' (Lake Mills) lineup scoreless until the sixth inning, Janesville Legion Post 205 eased to a 5-1 baseball victory on Saturday at Stampfl Field in Verona. Leeder struck out eight batters in the win.
Scoreless entering the bottom of the fourth, left fielder Sam Houim brought home shortstop Tucker Elliott on a sacrifice fly to give Janesville a 1-0 advantage.
In the next inning, Post 205 first baseman Tyler Hagen hit a line-drive double on a 1-2 count that scored two runners. Center fielder Easton Zastrow scored later in the inning on a dropped third strike to give Janesville a 4-0 lead.
After allowing a run in the top of the sixth, Post 205 answered with one final run on a bases-loaded walk.
Right fielder Landon Keller led Janesville with two hits.
Janesville Post 205 rallied in the sixth inning of its baseball contest against Eau Claire on Saturday at Stampfl Field in Verona, but five runs wasn't enough to overcome a double-digit deficit. Post 205 lost the game 11-6.
Down 11-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, Janesville loaded the bases before Hoium and third baseman Sawyer Dominy capitalized with a single and a double, respectively. Hoium had two hits in the game. Janesville tacked on two more runs via RBI-groundouts before the game finished.
Eau Claire took a 7-0 lead by the fourth inning and had 11 hits in the game.
