While she finishes high school, Hundt is also working toward her associate’s degree at Blackhawk Technical College. She will graduate this spring as valedictorian with a 4.0 grade point average, and will start the surgical technology program at BTC in the fall.
Hundt will be among the honorees at YWCA of Rock County’s 49th annual Women of Distinction Awards dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 at the Celtic House, 1417 W. Airport Road, Janesville.
Hundt said she’s always wanted to do something in the medical and STEM field, with a recent goal of becoming a traveling surgical tech.
“I want to travel and see the world,” she said.
Hundt said she enjoys staying busy. She has participated in many different sports including gymnastics and swimming, and also found Girl Scouts.
She joined Girl Scouts in 2014 and was the top cookie seller in Wisconsin in 2020.
She said Girl Scouts has really shaped her life. She said she was very shy before she joining a troop. Thorugh that involvement she also learned skills like first aid, cooking and camping.
She started her own Girl Scout troop this year and hopes to offer others involved a similar experiences and lessons that she had over the years.
“We’ve tried a bunch of different stuff. And we’ve done a lot of volunteer stuff. And that was fun,” Hundt said.
Troop members have set high-enough cookie sales goals the past four years to pay for a trip to Europe. In June, Hundt will be visiting England, France, Italy, Switzerland and Greece.
In her free time, Hundt also likes to try new hobbies, like paddle boarding, sewing, reading, and she has a passion for traveling. She also performs in the Craig Symphonic and Philharmonic Orchestra, where she plays the violin and the viol and is a member of the Student Leadership Council, where she helps plan fundraisers, school activities, and events.
Hundt said she was surprised that she was nominated a Young Woman of Distinction by her teachers.
“It felt really good,” she said. “I felt like I was noticed for my hard work and for everything I put into my life.”
She said that being named a Young Woman of Distinction is a chance to change the lives of people in the community and also be the change for young girls.
“Being a Woman of Distinction is doing things for people not for publicity, but to help them, which in turn helps yourself,” she said.
