“What we can say is it is a criminal actor and that we’re working with law enforcement,� Smith said.

Smith said there has been contact with “various levels of law enforcement� including the FBI, but would not say share which other agencies are involved, stating that he did not want to compromise the investigation.

Systems are mostly functional, Smith said. He did not share if there was a known source of the attack.

The county announced earlier this month that on Sept. 29 that it had experienced some sort of “cyber event that affected the operability of certain computer systems.�
